Solar Electric Specialists was established in 1997 when the owner/managers returned from a brief stint overseas. They found that there was a definite need to help people that had purchased a solar panel with queries about wire size, how to mount solar panels, circuit breakers, type of batteries, etc, etc. There was little in the way of information to answer these queries about solar power and solar and wind energy systems. Hence Solar Electric Specialists was formed.
Our company now has a very large customer base of solar and wind turbine systems installed mainly around the South Island. Although this section of the website is "About Us” - we would prefer to think of it in terms as to what we can do to help you achieve your objectives from clean and green renewable energy.
Even though the company attends many home and business shows during a year, the majority of new business comes from recommendations from existing customers. From the time a customer approaches us at a show, there could be lengthy delays before an eventual sale due to customer house planning, various permits, etc. A company like ours therefore has to approach business on a long-term basis.
Our company markets a combination of commercial and private applications – a lot of satisfaction comes from being able to help individuals to achieve the degree of electrical independence that they want. The process begins with a Load Analysis of the customers requirements because the emphasis is always on the end results. We guarantee our systems to operate to the customers brief and have included a few testimonials (below) about our customer satisfaction.

We make every endeavor to utilize appropriate technology to our client's advantage. We can provide a copy of "What to expect from your RE Supplier” and this explains the steps that are carried out to achieve individual results. When a larger system proceeds, we ask our clients to sign a Contract which outlines the responsibilities for both parties. We can post a copy of our Client Commitment statement in which we undertake to strive for maximum customer satisfaction.
Along with the Client Commitment, the company has been very active in the industry. We were instrumental in the formation of the New Zealand Photovoltaic Association as well as the Sustainable Electricity Association of New Zealand and were founding and serving Board members on both those industry organizations for a number of years.

Awards
We have received the Green Heart Award in 2000, the Christchurch City Council Civic Award in 2001, and the Environment Canterbury Resource Management Award in 2004 and have had numerous nominations during the years for Solar Electric Specialists and the Sustainability EXPO. The Sustainability EXPO was all about education and information on sustainability - it was a division of Solar Electric Specialists that had provided education to the public over a 6 to 7 year period in the South Island.
